MISTÉRIO LARANJA VOL.1

𝘔𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦́𝘳𝘪𝘰 𝘓𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘫𝘢 is a feverish exercise in constructing branches between music and spoken word (texts by José Lencastre). Here, the mystery is not something to be deciphered, but something to be accepted as it is: a mystery. The colour orange runs through the album like an unstable and changeable substance. Sometimes a remembered landscape, sometimes a mutating body, sometimes a primitive eruptive gesture. It is temperature, living matter that branches out between music and spoken poetry in a feverish emotional state.(...)

Both poetry and free jazz operate here in a space of resistance: resistance to predictable form, to rapid consumption, to passive listening. Rather, they demand an active presence from the listener.
Mistério Laranja, an album by the quartet of musicians composed by Francisco Morato, João Svayam, José Lencastre and Luís Melo, allows for an exercise in radical listening, listening to the other, to the collective and to the unspeakable that inhabits the in-between and the surrounding.
