SECOND CHANCE

AŬSKULTI, João Svayam's conceptual collaborative project focused on offline improvisation collaboration and realtime composition, releases SECOND CHANCE today. The second release by the name AŬSKULTI, brings a more melancholic, dark and contemplative approach to this concept. It was mainly inspired by João's car accident in Dec 2024, and his encounter with the possibility of death, the unbelievable outcome of being alive and unhurt, the difficulty of living with a second chance and all the absurdity of life.
Days after the car crash João recorded most of the base tracks of the album and sent it to several artists. Jörg Stohwasser, Dean Petrovski, Nadìr, Leonel Cardoso and Francisco Morato, are among those musicians that help create this amazing therapeutic collection of tracks.
«There are moments when time collapses and, in an instant, everything that was certain dissolves and the spectre of the end works on us in an irreversible way.
The album Second Chance is born from that moment: a place where the fragile matter of life becomes sound, where the silence that rises after an accident that puts life on a thin line is filled with echoes, textures, and uncertain pulsars.
Second Chance is a journey through these emotional territories where each track is like an intuitive reconstruction of memory, of fear, of vertigo, and finally of light. It is not just about survival, but about what comes after: the amazement, the lucidity of being alive and the gratitude of receiving a second chance.
The sound compositions that make up the album extend like a glassy mist that fragments without ever ceasing to reorganise and reunite.
"Second Chance" is an album that does not seek to explain, but to make you feel… to touch the margins of what is left unsaid. It is born from the gap between collision and silence, where life, suspended, questions itself. It does not celebrate the return, it celebrates the wonder and vertigo of still being here.»

«AŬSKULTI is both a safe space for me to express my feelings and a common place where I send my tracks to other musicians and fellow improvisers to send me their contributions. The base tracks of SECOND CHANCE were recorded days after a near-death experience in a car accident and are, therefore, a way to cope with the recent trauma but also the recognition of the absurdity of life as well as new possibilities.
I am forever grateful to all of those who received this piece of my coping experience and gave it meaning, recognition, and a second chance at life.»
